SWB Piping Design Agent · in development

Engineering context for an open stress model.

The stress engine can calculate the response of a model. A useful design proposal also needs to understand the service, the arrangement, the work to be done around it and the information still missing. The agent is being built to bring those questions into the modeling loop.

Current state I

The Reader is published. The live research agent is still being built.

The current desktop workbench demonstrates a local proposal preview and a reviewed route for structured model operations. Offline agent proposals can be imported, checked and explicitly applied. Live model-provider research through this Reader, and preparation of user-added sources for that research, are not yet connected to the product. The workflow below describes the component being developed, not an autonomous design service available today.

Follow the current software limits and the open mechanics manual when evaluating the program. Read the engineering Reader as a research resource now.

The method II

Research, propose, calculate, review.

The intended agent begins with the engineer’s actual problem and works toward a model change that can be inspected.

  1. Understand the duty. Identify the fluid and operating states, equipment connections, required function, project constraints and applicable code criteria supplied by the user. Ask when a necessary value or boundary is missing.
  2. Research the engineering context. Follow relevant sections of the public Reader and the user’s own prepared sources to compare mechanisms, configurations, examples and qualifications. A service label or a diagram alone does not settle a design choice.
  3. Propose an alternative. State the assumed conditions, the reason for a route, support or component change, and the unresolved questions. Express any model change as a structured operation that the user can inspect.
  4. Test the modeled consequence. Use SWBPIPE’s open mechanics to examine movements, loads, reactions and recovered stresses for the candidate model and compare them with the previous state.
  5. Return the decision to the engineer. Show the proposal, calculated consequences and remaining checks. The user decides what enters the model and what requires further project data or professional validation.

The Reader III

Why a stress solver needs a knowledge source beside it.

A solver answers what a specified physical model does under specified loads. It does not know, by itself, why a line needs a low-point drain, how an exchanger head will be removed, which support state matters during a test or what a service change makes unsafe.

Piping Engineering Knowledge is a reference for piping design decisions. It brings together methods, material and service limits, alternative arrangements, and constraints from fabrication, construction, testing, operation and maintenance. Conditions and qualifications remain attached to the methods and historical data. Its 22 chapters include 144 recreated, machine-readable technical figures.

The agent’s intended research path uses this Reader to orient itself to a scenario and find the questions and methods that matter. The project’s current code, owner requirements, material and component data, and actual operating conditions still come from the user and the applicable sources. The Reader does not supply a project’s code rules or turn an old chart into a current design rating.

Your sources can join the research context.

The planned knowledge workflow will let users add sources they are entitled to use and have them prepared as material their agent can search and reason over. These sources may include project requirements, licensed code criteria, vendor instructions and engineering notes. The prepared material should retain its identity, conditions and review status so an answer can be traced and a disagreement with the public Reader can be seen. These user-controlled sources are for that user’s work; adding one does not publish it into this Reader or make its claims automatically authoritative.

Published as an authorless technical synthesis. Its source and review records are retained separately for editing and audit; the public edition stands on its own.

The boundary IV

What the agent does not decide.

It does not invent the design basis.

Missing dimensions, properties, support conditions, operating cases and code-specific values remain open inputs. Neither the agent nor the Reader supplies protected standards tables or an unstated project rule.

It does not silently edit the model.

A proposed change is shown as an operation for review. Model state changes through the same validated operation path used by the user, with an explicit decision to apply it.

It does not certify a design.

SWBPIPE’s mechanics can support iteration and comparison. A result, an agent explanation or a Reader example is not professional acceptance, code compliance, construction release or a substitute for validation in the engineer’s accepted workflow.

It does not hide source limits.

Some Reader charts describe particular materials, fluids, temperatures or historical configurations. Where their basis is incomplete or contradictory, that condition travels with the explanation and prevents an unsupported general calculation.

The engineer retains the design decision; the agent makes its proposal, assumptions and consequences easier to examine.
